
Joan Greatrake McBride, CFRE, FAHP, MBA

Joan McBride has devoted her entire professional career to the non-profit sector, beginning in 1981 with a fundraising internship at her undergraduate alma mater, UC Irvine. After graduation, she spent the next 13 years as a fundraising executive with several not-for-profit hospitals, including Hoag Hospital.
Since forming her consulting practice in 1996, Joan has worked with more than 60 non-profit organizations in the areas of fund development, strategic planning and marketing communications. She is also affiliated with Third Sector Company, a firm that specializes in transitional management for the non-profit sector.
Joan is a past president of the Southern California Association for Healthcare Development (SCAHD) and is currently a board member for the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ Orange County, CA Chapter, serving as co-chair of the chapter’s National Philanthropy Day in 2020 and 2021 (2020’s event was held virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic, was extremely well-received and exceeded its original net fundraising goal by more than 40%). She has also been a member of the Nonprofit Collaborative of Southern California since 2014.

Joan’s formal education includes a BA in Psychology from the University of California, Irvine and an MBA with an emphasis in marketing from California State University, Long Beach.
